The July pairs final was played today in great weather. The final was the culmination of a keenly contested competition. The worthy runners-up were Pat Wright and Norman Daglish but the clear winners on the day were Sandie Thompson and Eric Watson. Twenty-four members, suitably socially distanced, watched the game in the sunshine. This audience was more than the attendance at yesterday’s FA Cup Final between Arsenal and Chelsea a fact sure to come up on Question of Sport. Club Captain Fred Dunlop presented the prize money and in his entertaining address made the point that the chance to play bowls under the current pandemic regulations was a boon to many members. He acknowledged the efforts of the Norman Gallon and Paul Langley in organising the tournament under trying conditions.
The Triples competition will be starting shortly and we are expecting to recreate this success. Watch this space!
