Junior’s Under 25 Pairs

On Monday afternoon our Will and Dylan played their first match against Bedford. They were ready until the Umpire said that the bowls of Dylan’s were not stamped up to 2024. Luckily the ladies tripled team from Consett came to the rescue and lent their size one bowls to Dylan. Will and Dylan were composed and had a comfortable win and through to the next round against Hampshire on Tuesday morning.

In the meantime our girls pairs team were playing at 5.30 against Dorset. Jasmine and Charlotte started well but the experience of the Dorset girls showed in the end and they lost. Throughout the match they played well as a team and encouraged each other.

Tuesday morning they had a bad start against Hants. and were 8-0 down but gradually they got back into the match. After 13 ends the score was 11 all. On the final end they were 14-13 down but Dylan put the Jack in the ditch with his bowl resting on the Jack . Will manage to get another shot after a very close measure now in the quarterfinals.

Tuesday afternoon, they played Cumbria and both their players were county players. Another poor start after 8 ends they were 4-13 down. Then the comeback by the 14th end they are 13-13 all . Wow!! At 18 ends they were all square on 16 all and an extra end now being played they were 3 up and the Cumbrian skip with his last bowl killed the end.  Therefore another extra end and after another close end they lost this match by one shot.

Overall they all played well and learned so much about playing at the next level. Both pairs have a great future and certainly showed how good we have done in the development of the Junior section.
